House update…

Posted in New House on May 22, 2008 by mommysarah

I realized I haven’t posted much by way of new house pictures for awhile but it is because we have been so busy lately. These pictures were actually taken mostly on May 10th but I hadn’t gotten (?) around to downloading them off my camera until a few days ago. We are actually a little farther than this now but here are the pics anyway…

We finally got the stairs completely sheetrocked and mudded. Being that the stairs are curved it was kind of a pain (mostly for Jake) because we had to buy super thin sheetrock (1/4 inch, I think) and fit it around all the curves and the stairs.

The entry way is also done with mud/tape and just waiting for texture. You can kind of see the ceiling in the corner of above the window and that has already been textured with what Jake calls “knock-down” but I have no idea what that means. Only that is makes the ceiling look good.

Working hard? Or hardly working?

The only thing more exciting than watching mud being stirred is watching paint dry, but these three seemed to be enjoying it!

This is the “guest” bathroom on the main level. Jake just finished putting up the hardibacker for the tile, and finished all the sheetrocking stuff. Now all it needs is a little texture on the walls and ceiling so I can start painting it.

Here is a lovely picture of Jake texturing the walls in Ethan’s room. The ceiling is already done so you can kind of see what the knockdown texture looks like. Doesn’t he just look like he is having a wonderful time?

Of course Ethan is always trying to help out. Here he is making sure everything gets texture on it, even the door frame (but mostly his fingers). Then he will chase you like a monster with his arms sticking out in front of him yelling, “gooey hands, gooey hands!”

And finally, the master bathroom. It has all the hardibacker up and just needs to have the walls sanded then it will be ready for texture and paint.

Yea! We are getting so close! At this point we are tentatively planning on moving the weekend of June 14th and 15th. We would only have to pay half a month of rent, and Jake will have been out of school for over two weeks. I recently found out that this is also Father’s Day, but unfortunately if things keep moving along this will be the best weekend for us to move. Besides, what better Father’s Day present could there be than finally moving into your own house?

Happy Mudder’s Day!

At least that is what it sounded like Ethan told me yesterday. He may have been trying for mother, but we have been doing a lot of sheetrock mudding over at the house so maybe he actually did mean mudder. Hope all the mothers out there had a great Mother’s Day!

I spent “Mudder’s Day” priming the walls in my kitchen dining room and laundry room. Not the most relaxing holiday ever, but if it gets me closer to moving in, then I am willing to make that sacrifice!

How we spent our Spring Break…

Posted in New House on April 1, 2008 by mommysarah

Since Jake is a teacher he usually gets an entire week off for spring break. Most years we have taken the whole week to visit family (half with mine, half with his). This year, since we are right in the middle of building the house we decided we didn’t get to take an entire week off and worked on the house instead. Luckily my sister Emily decided she wanted to spend her spring break with us too! It was nice to have her here because then she can help take care of Ethan so I can help out more on the house. She also became very adept at sheetrock screwing in.  Jake’s dad also took a couple days off work and came down to help out. He does a great job with the mudding and taping which is good, since I would have no idea what to do. Here are some pictures from that week.

2008-3-18-8.jpg  This is the entry way looking up from the front door. It is about twenty or so feet high so it hasn’t been easy to finish.

2008-3-18-10.jpg  Once you walk through our entry area it opens into our living room/kitchen area and the hallway leading to the Ethan’s room, a bathroom, and the master suite.

2008-3-18-3.jpg     This is the living room taken from the kitchen with our gas fireplace on the right side.

2008-3-18-5.jpg   And this is the Kitchen/Dining room taken from the living room. There will be an island and a bar area in the kitchen so it isn’t actually just one big open space.

2008-3-18-master-bedroom.jpg  Just thought I’d throw this picture on here. This is Ethan riding his bike around the master bedroom since it was too windy that day to play outside. Emily is watching him to make sure he doesn’t put big dents in the walls because he loves to crash!
