What a goofy kid!

   What is it with kids and their parents shoes? Ethan loves to put on Jake’s shoes and walk around. Sometimes he even likes to wear mine. His favorite pair seems to be Jake’s hunting/house building boots. I think he likes them because they are as tall as his legs so they stay on when he tries to walk around.

Also, I just thought I’d show you how Ethan spent the day today. He woke up a little early and has not been in the greatest mood for most of the day. This is one of the few calm and quiet times I have had today and it only lasted about five minutes. He is sitting under the desk where I am usually working on the computer. In case you couldn’t tell, the book he is reading is a thesaurus and the other one is a dictionary. I guess he is trying to expand his vocabulary…

Later in the day after he had taken a too short nap (and by that I mean he was still in a bad mood), we had to run over to the house to help Jake make some decisions about faucet placement etc. Ethan did not want to go. He didn’t want to get his shoes on, or go out to the car, or get in his carseat. But once we got in the car he saw a half full bag of Cheetos from a few days ago and immediately he was better. This is what he looked like when he got done.

 

He was such a mess and it probably spoiled his dinner appetite, but hey, it was the happiest he (and I, for that matter) had been all day!

House pictures

    I thought I would add another update of our house since it seems to be moving along pretty well. At least I think it is moving along, Jake seems to think it is going way too slowly but I think that is because he is doing the majority of the work. Unfortunately Ethan has decided that he now likes to sleep in until 8 or 9 -which is definitely not a bad thing- but that means he doesn’t nap until 2 or 3 which is when Jake gets home and could use the help on the house.  I’ve debated waking Ethan up early, but then he is so ornery all day that I don’t get anything done (work, housecleaning, etc). Oh well, I’m sure we will be done way before July 24th and that is when the construction loan expires so I guess we’re okay.  Here are the most recent pictures I have taken of the house. These were all taken on Saturday when Jake’s dad was down here helping us. 

  This is our main level furnace. Jake started it up a few days ago and said it seemed to be working fine but we’ll have to see once we get everything closed in.

   This is what was supposed to be the formal dining area, but really, how many people actually use their formal dining area?  We are going to use it as the computer room/piano room/whatever. It has been completely sheetrocked but not taped/mudded.

      This is Ethan’s room and he seems to be very excited about it. He loves to go in and sit in his little blue chair (sometimes in the closet). If you ask him which is his room he will usually run in there, start jumping up and down, dancing, and generally being a nut. He also likes to tell me where he is going to put his bed and what will be in his closet.

I figured I would add a couple of pictures of the the two people who have put the most time into building the house -besides me and Ethan of course ;). So here is one of Jake working on sheetrocking the hallway, and one of his dad taping the master closet. Both jobs are very dirty and tedious but they are both smiling so it can’t be all bad, right?

These are just some random pictures of Ethan from times when we have been working on the house. He has actually been a pretty good little helper and has been a total trooper putting up with all this chaos.

8/12/2007 Another good one by Grandma Sandie. It was very hot during August when we started building and I think he was just doing what we all wished we were doing.

 

9-2-2007 This was the day after we put on the roof trusses and everyone was exhausted. In this case, I think the shirt is very fitting because his batteries were definitely dead.

 

9-26-2007 Ethan takes after me and loves to stick his tongue out in pictures. For awhile there, as soon as he saw a camera he would stick out his tongue. He also likes to look and make sure I am sticking mine out too.

 

10-23-2007 These are the leftover parts of the pillars used to hold up the front porch. Ethan loves to lay on them, crawl all over them, and also draw pictures on them.

 

11-6-2007  We got him this bike so he would have something to do while we were working. He loves to ride it all over the dirt in the backyard and cruise through the house on the nice smooth cement. He also loves to wear his construction helmet around.

 

2-16-08 Our wonderful soon-to-be neighbors got Ethan this tonka truck for Christmas. She said they kept watching him play in the dirt and thought he could use a nice big truck. Boy was she right, he loves to fill it up with dirt and rocks, then drive it away and dump it out. We were very surprised and appreciative of their thoughtfulness. Oh, and that funny face is what he does now when you tell him to smile for the camera. What a nutball!
